CONSTITUTION OF THE CHRISTIAN MEDICAL FELLOWSHIP - BAHRAIN

A: The Statutes
​
1. CONSTITUTION
​
The Fellowship constituted hereby shall be a union of Christian doctors, dentists, and medical and dental students, who are in sympathy with the aims of the Fellowship and are prepared to sign the Membership Basis.
​
2. NAME
​
The full name of the Fellowship shall be CMF Bahrain (standing for “Christian Medical Fellowship Bahrain”), and herein referred to in this document as ‘the Fellowship’.
​
3. AIMS
​
The Aims of the Fellowship shall be:
i. To unite Christian doctors, dentists, and medical and dental students in Christ and encourage them to deepen their faith, live like Christ, and serve Him obediently, particularly through acting competently and with compassion in their medical and dental practice.
ii. To encourage Christian doctors, dentists, and medical and dental students to be witnesses for Christ among all those they meet.
iii. To promote Christian values in society, especially, but not limited to, the areas of bioethics and healthcare.

4. DOCTRINAL BASIS
​
The doctrinal basis of the Fellowship shall be:
​
i. We believe the Bible to be the authoritative word of God.
ii. We believe that there is one God, creator of heaven and earth, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
iii. We believe in the deity and humanity of Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, in His present rule as Head of the Church, and in His personal return in power and glory.
iv. We believe that salvation is based on the sacrifice of Christ and regeneration by the Holy Spirit.
v. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
vi. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the saved, and the everlasting punishment of the lost.
vii. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ, with equality across racial, gender, and class differences.

5. MEMBERSHIP
​
Membership of the Fellowship shall be open to all doctors, dentists, and medical and dental students, of any Christian denomination, who are in full sympathy with the aims of the Fellowship and who sign the following declaration of membership:
Membership Declaration:
I am in sympathy with the Aims of CMF Bahrain and the doctrinal basis of its formation, and thus affirm my faith in Jesus Christ as my Savior, my Lord, and my God. I believe in the Revelation of the one true God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) and the gospel of redemption and regeneration through the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, as recorded in Holy Scripture, which is the divinely inspired Word of God for faith and life.

6. MEMBERSHIP FEES
​
a) Membership fees will be determined from time to time by the General Council and will be fixed with regard to the income of the members.
b) Membership fees are payable annually on the first of January.
c) Members who are more than two years in arrears with their membership fees may be suspended at the discretion of the Executive Committee with the approval of the General Council.

7. GENERAL COUNCIL
​
a) The General Council shall consist of the Executive Committee and a minimum of three other CMF Bahrain members.
b) The General Council shall transact the general and constitutional business of the Fellowship and shall promote its well-being, policy, and development.
c) The General Council shall present at the Annual General Meeting, to be approved by a simple majority of those present and voting, the election of the following officers:

Chairperson (usually for three years)

Vice-Chairperson (usually for two years, followed by three years as Chairperson)

Treasurer (usually for three years)\​
8. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
​
An Annual General Meeting shall be held annually to receive reports, elect Executive Committee officers and additional General Council members, and transact any other business. Notice of such a meeting, together with reports and an agenda, shall be sent to all members at least fourteen days before the date thereof.

9. SUB-COMMITTEES
​
a) The General Council may appoint sub-committees as necessary for the efficient running of the Fellowship.
b) The President shall be an ex-officio member of all sub-committees.
c) Members, besides officers and General Council members, may be invited by the General Council to serve on sub-committees.

10. QUORUM
​
The quorum at the Annual General Meeting shall consist of fifteen members or one-third of the total full membership, whichever is the lesser.
11. AMENDMENTS
​
No alterations shall be made to these statutes except by agreement of three-quarters of those present and voting at an Annual General Meeting. Any proposed amendment must be given in writing to the President and signed by at least fifteen members. Such amendments shall become effective 28 days after the date of the meeting.

B: The Articles
​
1. GENERAL COUNCIL
​
a) The General Council shall consist of members nominated by Fellowship members and may or may not currently be on the General Council.
b) Functions and responsibilities:

Nominate members for the Executive Committee.

Receive reports and accounts of the Fellowship’s business.

Consider the vision, strategy, and direction of the Fellowship.
c) The General Council shall meet at least twice a year, including at the Annual General Meeting.
d) The Chairperson must adjourn any meeting if a quorum of at least three or more than half of the total General Council members, whichever is greater, is not present.​
2. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

a) The Executive Committee shall consist of:

Vice-Chairperson

Treasurer
b) No employee of the Fellowship may be an Officer.
c) Functions and responsibilities: -
Conduct the day-to-day business of the Fellowship.

Manage financial administration, with the Treasurer presenting a report at each Annual General Meeting.

Appoint administrative committees as needed.
d) The President, Vice-Chairperson, and Treasurer shall be nominated by the General Council.
e) Officers must affirm agreement with the Doctrinal Basis in writing upon election.​
3. AMENDMENTS
​
No alterations shall be made to these articles except by agreement of three-quarters of those present and voting at an Annual General Meeting. Any amendment shall become effective 28 days after approval.

4. DISSOLUTION
​
The Fellowship may be dissolved by a resolution passed by two-thirds of the General Council and a 90% majority of members at a Special General Meeting. Any remaining assets shall be transferred to a charitable institution with similar aims.
